Case Study

Aces on Tap

Aces on Tap: Every day, billions of people use the internet to find answers to their questions. AoT is a platform for Gig workers (Aces), they have a new way to earn by sharing their expertise. Aces on Tap is a one-stop shop for Aces to market their services, scheduling appointments with clients, and receiving their income.

My Role:

UX/UI Designer & Product Manager

I worked as the solo designer on this project and created all the IA and task flows for every process. The entire design process took me two and a half months. After that, I acted as the Product Manager for the project. As a Product Manager, I prioritize and drive the development of the project. In three months, we could develop and test the product and deliver the MVP to production.

Timeline:

Apr 2022 - Dec 2022

Problem Statement:

Design a subscription based platform that allows experts to post gigs for everyday things. Platform will have two types of users (Aces & Clients) and every profile will have a reputation, interests & topics. Experts can charge fees in response to learning. Anyone can make a profile on the platform and can choose to be an Ace or Client.

Goals:

  • Create a user-friendly and intuitive platform that is easy for both Aces and clients to use.

  • Since it's a new platform, there should be proper guidelines or tutorials to help users learn how to use the application.

  • Make it easy for freelancers to create and manage their profiles and gig listings.

  • Allow clients to search for and hire Ace quickly and efficiently based on reputation, topics & price.

  • Make it easy for users to contact each other and share information through the platform.

Target Audience:

  • Clients looking to get one-on-one short calls for small projects at a minimal price.

  • Small business owners and entrepreneurs who may be interested in using the platform to find talent for their projects.

  • Aces looking to make money by posting gigs on simple topics.

Concept:

Aces on tap is a gig-based platform for two types of users (Aces and Clients). It will be a subscription-based platform for Aces, and Clients will be paying directly to the Aces using third-party payment gateways. An Ace can set-up their account by adding skills and personal information to it. A Client can create their account by simply adding personal information and interests. This eventually helps the system suggest similar profiles & topics (future aspect). Clients should be able to book a session with any Ace on any topic based on their profile. That session will then be reflected onto the calendar of both Ace & Client.

Information Architecture

The information architecture of the entire flow of the application. I have not included the admin controls and third-party application involvements, which can be discussed over a call.

Designs:

Learnings:

  • I developed a better understanding of user needs and user behaviors by conducting user research and testing the product.

  • I honed and developed my design skills by creating multiple prototypes and creating visual designs. I could create complex designs that were visually appealing and functional.

  • As a Product Manager, collaborating with other developers and testers helps me understand more about how the code works and different types of testing. This knowledge helps me make decisions about what to build and how to build it.

  • I also learned how to think creatively and critically to solve complex problems. I learned how to break a complex problem into small and more manageable pieces, and how to approach problem-solving in a structured and systematic way.

If you'd like to discuss further information or designs on this project, you can do so over a call.
